Richard Alexander, Chairman of the Board
Mr. Alexander is the founder
and former
CEO of Viking Industries, a highly successful window
and door manufacturing company headquartered in Portland. He
sold his company several years ago, but continues to remain
active in the community, including Chairman, Associated Oregon
Industries; Board member, Portland Chamber of Commerce; Board
member, OMSI; President, Rose Festival Association; President of
the Board, Oregon Episcopal Schools; Chairman, Crime Commission;
and Board member, Boy Scouts of America.
Thomas Tomjack, Vice Chairman
Mr. Tomjack is Chairman and CEO
of the
North Pacific Group, of which North Pacific Lumber is a
part. He is a past Manager of KPMG Peat Marwick, where he held
various other positions in both New York and Portland. He also
worked for the Potlatch Corporation as general sales manager
before joining North Pacific. Tom currently serves on the Board
of Regents of the University of Portland and is a past Board
member of Pacific University where he was Chairman of the
Finance and Investment Committees.

Sheryl A. Manning is an experienced businesswoman
and active leader in civic and nonprofit organizations. She began her
career in public accounting, working for both Coopers & Lybrand and Arthur Andersen,
and ultimately established her own independent practice serving the accounting and
reporting needs of publicly-held companies. She has a strong history of involvement
with civic and nonprofit organizations in the community. She was instrumental in
the re-formation of the nonprofit Classic Wines Auction, Inc. into an independent
entity in order to enable it to support additional children and family charities,
is a two-time past chair of the annual charity wine auction, and continues to serve
actively on its board. She served as a commissioner and chair of the
Metropolitan Exposition Recreation Commission, and twice ran its day-to-day operations
as the interim general manager. She has also served on the boards of several other
corporate and community organizations including Albina Community Bank, Friends of the
Performing Arts Center, Portland Youth Philharmonic and Oregon Ballet Theatre.
Frances Matson has spent most of her
business career in Portland, Oregon where she has been a
successful realtor, investor
and commercial banker. She has
served as a Senior Vice President of US Bank, and was selected
for special executive management recognition and training.
During her tenure at US Bank she acquired extensive REO and
problem loan experience. She is also a licensed associate real
estate broker. As a real estate investor Fran has owned at
various times a total of over 1000 rental units. She has also
been involved in various development projects such as the Catlin
Crest Subdivision, Murray Ridge and Barbur Square.
Stephen Mitchell is the Chief Financial Officer of
Mercy Corps, a $250 million global poverty relief and development agency
supported by
headquarters offices in North America, Europe, and Asia, with 2,700 staff worldwide
reaching nearly 10 million people in more than 40 countries. He has 24 years of domestic
and international finance experience, and has worked extensively in the private sector
for major U.S. financial and public accounting institutions, including U.S. Bank, Zions
Bank and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He serves as a Director and Vice-Chair of XacBank, one
of Asia's largest and most successful commercial microfinance organizations, and is an
advisor on microfinance matters around the world. Mr. Mitchell sits on the boards of
various for- profit and not-for-profit organizations, and is an Investment Committee
member of Microvest, LLC, an international microfinance investment fund. He received his
MBA in Finance from the University of California at Irvine and his undergraduate degree
in Political Science from Brigham Young University. He is a Certified Public Accountant
and Certified Treasury Professional.
Werner G. Nistler Jr. is Chairman
and CEO of Touchmark, one of Oregon's top 150 privately held companies.
He has established
and grown a variety of businesses over the past 30
years, including Touchmark, which develops and operates resort
retirement and health care communities in the West, Midwest and Canada.
Among other enterprises, Werner also formed Beaverton Banking Company, a
state chartered bank, which became Valley National Bank and ultimately
part of U.S. Bank. He holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in
accounting and has worked as a Certified Public Accountant. He is a
member of Rotary International.
Ronald Shellan is a partner with Miller
Nash LLP, where he leads the firm’s affordable housing practice group
and also specializes in
tax, business and corporate law. He has chaired
the Oregon State Bar tax section, and has twice served on the board of
directors of the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. Ron was
the founding president of the Portland Tax Forum and serves on its board
of directors. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and, before his
career in law, worked as a tax accountant for Coopers & Lybrand. He
graduated magna cum laude from the University of Washington and earned
his law degree at Willamette University. Ron has been active in a number
of community organizations including service as an officer and board
member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Oregon Chapter, Robison Jewish
Home and Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants Charitable
Foundation.
Karen Whitman is President of Karen
Whitman Projects. In addition to her extensive background in
marketing and public relations,
she is a nationally known consultant on public spaces. She has been one of Portland’s most
prolific advocates and has served as past Director of Pioneer
Courthouse Square and past President of Portland Oregon Visitors
Association. Karen founded Artquake and the Association for
Portland Progress (now the Portland Business Alliance), as well
as assisting in policy formulation for various other civic and
private initiatives to encourage economic development and the
local economy. She is currently President of the Oregon Sports
Authority. She is a board member of the Portland Schools
Foundation and the Portland Parks Foundation, in addition to
serving as a member of the Portland Business Alliance Marketing
Committee.
